bringing opportunities into view

Backlink Scout is a lightweight discovery tool for solo founders, indie hackers, artists, and independent creators who want to find websites likely to feature their work.

The user submits a project URL. The tool researches the project, searches for relevant websites, investigates how those websites publish, and returns a shortlist of domains worth contacting.

The product came from a simple problem I experienced while running my own print shop: finding useful backlink opportunities takes time, judgment, and a lot of repeated manual scanning. The challenge was to make that process feel clear, focused, and human.

the product idea

Backlink Scout is built around one question: How likely is free outreach to this domain to result in a public feature with a backlink? The tool does not try to automate the whole outreach process. It focuses on the first step: finding quality candidates. Each domain is grouped into one of three states: Promising, Maybe, or Skip. The judgment is based on evidence, not just topic fit. A website needs to show that it has featured outside work before and linked to it publicly.

The visual challenge

Backlinks are often shown through chains, graphs, SEO metrics, and technical dashboards. I wanted to avoid that language. The real feeling is more open-ended. People know backlinks can help their work rank and get discovered, but they are not sure where their work might be valued. That led to the central idea: There is something beyond the immediate frame worth discovering.

signal horizon

The photography uses wide plains, bright skies, and hazy light. It creates a calm sense of distance and possibility. The landscape feels open, but not fully readable yet. The logo shows a human figure looking into the distance. That gesture became the bridge between the product and the visual system. When sunlight makes it hard to see, you raise your hand to block the glare. That small action creates a clearer field of view. Backlink Scout works in the same way. It helps reduce uncertainty so a useful opportunity can come into focus. The main graphic device is a shade field: an abstract curved shape that refers to the hand without becoming literal. It sits over the hazy photography and creates a calmer area where a signal can appear.

identity system

The palette starts with a warm, sun-bleached base and uses sharp blue as the signal color. White accents keep the system open and light. The logo uses LL Circular for a clean, modern tone. Berlingske adds a more editorial voice for longer copy. That mix helps the product feel less like SEO software and more like a focused research tool. Together, the identity uses horizon photography, shade fields, clear typography, and concise product cards to explain the product in a simple way: Backlink Scout brings the right opportunities into view.
